Mr. Speaker. I rise to support S. 3942. This is a good bill. It is a humanitarian measure designed to relieve suffering and hardship. It provides for the issuance of 1.500 special nonquota immigrant visas to Portuguese nationals. as well as 3.136 nonquota visas to Dutch nationals who were displaced from Indonesia. The Portuguese nationals were made homeless by the tragic earthquakes and volcanic eruptions in the Azores in 1957. I favor this legislation. Mr. Speaker. because it carries out the traditional position of the United States to aid and welcome distressed peoples. and. at the same time. permit relatives of the Portuguese and Dutch nationals here in the United States to sponsor and provide for them to come to the United States.
