He is the Baron de Ferrariis. who. on June 17 was honored by an official luncheon tendered him by Mayor Wagner. In this connection. I offer a portion of an editorial which appeared in the New York Times. and which is worthy of the attention of the Congress: New York used to be called. with reason. "the largest Italian city In the world." That was In the first few decades of this century when the heavy Italian Immigration. gave us more inhabitants from Italy than the population of any one city on the peninsula. Since then cities like Rome and Milan have gone far beyond the 1 million mark. Immigration was almost cut off. and the children of those earlier Immigrants are now as much Americans as any of us. All the same. if one takes blood relationship. this city still rates as the largest concentration of Individuals of Italian origin existing anywhere in the world. Baron de Ferrarlis (who has the diplomatic rank of minister) had been closely associated with all the Initiatives and Interrelations between this vast community and his country.
