Panama and Puerto Rico I met many young Venezuelans from all walks of lifelawyers. engineers. farmers. architectswho are forced into a life of exile for the single crime of urging free elections. the basic tenet we proclaim so proudly in Europe. Asia. and the Far East. These Venezuelans are the minutemen of Venezuelan liberties. or if you prefer. the freedom fighters. Does it make sense for the United States to decorate the man for whom they are sacrificing family and comfort in the battle for liberty? The incredible asylum granted Prez Jim~nez in these United States after his overthrow caused Vice President NIXON some trying moments in Caracas. we are told. Can we now wonder wideeyed why the Venezuelan people are suspicious of our motives? Ten months ago.
