Session #85 · 1957–59

Speech #850207056

Although suppressed for years under Stalins tyranny. even the present Warsaw regime makes mention of the fact that this constitution exists. One hundred years ago. Adam Mickiewicz. the great Polish poet and patriot who lived in exile in Paris. in his Words to the Immigration. published in the Peoples Tribune had this to say about the May 3 constitution: The Polish cause will once again come up before the worlds tribunal. not through any other way but by means of a general political thunderstorm. Did not we have in the past one common act. one written law. the spirit of which we ought to deeply penetrate? This was not a law that resulted from the brainwork of a single clever human being. but it was taken from the hearts of a great mass of people.
