During this time. although he is a New Yorker. his program of activity has brought him to New Jersey on many occasions and he is probably as familiar with the problems peculiar to my District as his own city of New York. I want to take this occasion to voice my appreciation for the help and guidance he has taken time from his busy schedule to give me as a freshman Congressman. Through his long and outstanding career EMANUEL CELLER has been a great humanitarianhe has been in the front ranks fighting for more liberal immigration laws. and last year authored civilrights legislation and guided it to enactmentthe first civilright legislation to be enacted by Congress. It. has been very gratifying to me on many occasions to find EMANUEL CELLER fighting for various groups who have contributed to our country. He has been heard on many such occasions involving Italian Americans.
