Session #85 · 1957–59

Speech #850180987

Speaker. several months ago a citizen of my district. who had a 9yearold daughter in Budapest. Hungary. called at my office concerning his efforts over the past 5 years to bring the girl toAmerica. There was no barrier to the childs admission to the United States. since she was the child of American citizens with no physical impairment or legal impediment other than the inhumanity of the Hungarian Government in not granting an exit visa to this child to permit her to join her parents in this country. At the suggestion of representatives of the State Department. a member of my staff advised this man to visit the Hungarian Embassy and make a personal appeal for the release of his child by the Hungarian Government. Upon this advice. my constituent called at the Hungarian Embassy and presented his plea for the release of his daughter by Hungarian authorities for the purpose of being reunited with her parents in America.
