Dr. Dooley emerged from that experience in 1956. dedicated to the belief that medicine was one of the great bonds of unity among the peoples of the world. He resolved to devote his life to this concept. He turned for help to the International Rescue Committee. This nonsectarian agency. of which Mr. Angier Biddle Duke is president. has been doing outstanding work for 25 years in aiding refugees fleeing from totalitarian tyranny. Although it had never before sponsored such a project. the International Rescue Committee was impressed by both Dr. Dooley himself and his proposal. Under its auspices. Dr. Dooley returned to Laos in the fall of 1956. to establish two jungle hospitals. one of which was only 5 miles from the frontier of Communist China.
