Session #85 · 1957–59

Speech #850164249

Mr. Speaker. today I have introduced a bill which would have the effect of setting up a procedure whereby the bona fide refugees of the Hungarian freedom revolution who have been paroled into the United States may acquire lawful permanent residence. On October 23. 1956. the Hungarian people. led by students and workers. began the day with peaceful demonstrations in Budapest through which they called for a return of their basic human rights which had been taken from them by the Russians and their handful of Hungarian collaborators. It will be recalled that at that time the Russian leaders of the Communist conspiracy were busy blaming Stalin for all the crimes and inhumanities committed by the Communists.
