Session #85 · 1957–59

Speech #850162366

Mr. Chairman. it Is my understanding that this $375.000 is wholly unnecessary to carry on the program of admission of immigrants to this country. It is my understanding. after talking to the distinguished chairman of the subcommittee of the House Judiciary Committee. the present Chairman of the Committee of the Whole. that this money Is not necessary to carry on the program of admission of foreigners. that the screening has already been done. and that very largely this is a proposition of rubberstamping the authorizations for entry into this country already made. Therefore. Mr. Chairman. I do not care to belabor the point. but I can see no reason why $375.000 should be expended to add 53 more Americans and 112 natives of foreign countries to the payroll.
