When we came before the full committee. the Senator from Illinois said he wanted to have the services of one economist who could be used by the minority. chiefly by himself. In the committee. we voted to increase the amount. so the Senator from Illinois could have the benefit of the services of an economist in whom he could have great confidence. I state frankly and in all honesty that I do not believe the requested amount will represent a waste of money. I agree with my friend. the Senator from Nebraska. I am chairman of the Subcommittee on Refugees. Fortyfive thousand dollars was appropriated for that subcommittee. But we returned $26.000 of that amount. we did not use the $26.000.
