Late in 1920. the Soviets gained control over Ukraine. ending that unhappy nations independence. Mr. President. there are hundreds of thousands of Wisconsin citizens who are themselves immigrants or are descended from Polish and Ukrainian people who have come to the United States to make their homes and their lives here. They are indeed entitled to be proud of the brave history of their people. and we will share in the great heritage which they have added to our American culture. I join them today in saluting the courage. the patriotism. and the durable faith that has sustained the peoples of their nations under such almost endless oppression.
