Mr. President. following my speech of June 19 to the Senate. urging the prompt adoption of legislation to admit to the United States orphans who have been adopted by American families. Senator JAMES 0. EASTLAND advised the Senate that orphan legislation will soon be on the Senate Calendar. I was very pleased that the chairman of the important Senate Judiciary Committee and the Immigration Subcommittee advised the Senate that he favored the legislation and that prompt action could now be expected. Mr. President. I warned last June 19 that many children already adopted by American families will die this summer unless Congress takes prompt action for the admission of these children.
