Session #85 · 1957–59

Speech #850072049

Mr. Speaker. in midJune 1941. a terrible tragedy befell Lithuania. At that time over 34.000 Lithuanians were ruthlessly seized by their Soviet conquerors and deported to distant parts of the U. S. S. R. Few spectacles in the history of mankind can compare to the gross inhumanity of these deportations. And yet this mode of mass suppression is a cardinal principle in the Communist way of life. It is sad to contemplate the future of the Lithuanian people. they have managed somehow under great odds to keep the body and soul of their nation together during this period of great national trial.
