Session #85 · 1957–59

Speech #850071911

Estonia. Latvia. and Lithuania. have suffered in bondage under the tyrannical power of the Soviet Union. The events of June 1940when many thousands of men. women and children were deported from their homelands to the barren steppes of Siberiawill always be impressed on the minds and hearts of free people. As we pause to mark the anniversary of these tragic deportations. we salute the people of the Baltic States. We in America are proud of the contributions of Americans of Estonian and Latvian and Lithuanian ancestry to making our Nation strong and free. We feel too a deep responsibility toward their brothers still behind the Iron Curtain.
