Speech #850064203

Robert Crosser was born June 7. 1874. the son of a Scotch physician. Dr. James Crosser. of Holytown. Lanarkshire. We are told in a biographical sketch which appeared some years ago that the first book Robert ever owned was awarded him by the headmaster of the Glengowan School for learning to read well. The .book was entitled "Being Afraid." a singularly inappropriate title. it would seem. for one who was never to be afraid of anything. In that same year. 1881. the family immigrated to America. s6ttling first in Cleveland. Ohio. and later in the little town of Salineville. in Columbiana County of the same State. Here the boy grew to manhood.
