Session #85 · 1957–59

Speech #850049704

Mr. Speaker. when I was home over the Easter recess. a number of persons and committees called upon me regarding the necessity of amending and repealing the inequities of the present immigration law. The Judiciary Committee of the House is now considering this legislation and I hope we can get favorable action in a short time so that the changes in this law can become effective before adjournment in August. The following is an article from the Gary PostTribune. setting out one of the thousands of inequities and hardships the present law inflicts upon so many of our citizens. [From the Gary (Ind.) PostTribune of April 29. 1957]
