Session #85 · 1957–59

Speech #850025249

They have shown that they can make history repeat itself. and will continue to make history repeat itself. again and again. in revolution after revolution. until what they have fought for has been won. In conclusion. I want to bring the attention of my colleagues to the response of the United States to the challenge of the Hungarian freedom fighters. We have. commendably. given asylum to the Hungarian refugees despite our discriminatory immigration policy. and we have given bread and bandages. However. is that enough? Should we not take more effective action for the people who have remained in Hungary?
