Lithuanians at last were able to enjoy their Godgiven right to selfgovernment and to look forward to a future of continuing fulfillment. An era followed of peace and economic and industrial progress. until in 1940 the Red Army marched into Lithuania and Lithuania was subjected to a systematized oppression which reached into every phase of the existence of its people. The wholesale deportations to Siberia. a rigidly enforced border control. together with collectivization of agriculture and industry have made in Lithuania the typical pattern of Soviet rule. But in spite of what are surely the most brutal and trying vicissitudes. the people of Lithuania have not lost heart. We pray that the day may be near at .hand when their courage will be rewarded and a liberated Lithuania will be welcomed once more into the community of free nations.
