Speech #850006966

They immediately made arrangements to house these boys and girls in the homes of our citizenry who shared the human interest to help in this very worthwhile cause. Father Hay immediately set up schooling facilities. procured clothing and assistance of all nature for these people whom he and his organized had sponsored. I had occasion to visit the rectory of this church and to speak through interpreters to almost all of the fighters. and I was deeply impressed by their devotion A652 to their country. and to the cause of freedom. and if other groups who have sponsored some of these refugees continued the same program that Father Hay started. these people would immediately be on the path to becoming some of our outstanding citizens and thankful souls. One of the men had written a poem which I had translated and which I enclose for the RECORD for others to read. I have purposely omitted his name which I know. because he still has a wife and 3yearold child In Budapest who would probably become the victims of further tyranny and oppression.
