Session #85 · 1957–59

Speech #850003771

WarrE To BYRNE Congressman EMMET F. BTENm of the Third District. has asked his constituents what they think of President Eisenhowers proposal to send American Armed Forces into the Middle East and to spend $400 million during the next 2 years for economic and military assistance to the nations of that area. Congressman BYRNE also asked the voters to tell him how they feel about letting down the bars of the immigration laws. about granting asylum to victims of Communist persecution. and Federal aid for construction of schools. We commend Congressman BYRNE for his action. Under the American system of government our representatives in legislative halls are supposed to vote the wishes of their constituents. but too often they ignore public sentiment and vote their own wishes.
