Session #85 · 1957–59

Speech #850002073

Dobriansky. who is also a professor of Soviet economics at the Graduate School of Georgetown University. received general praise for its scholarly presentation of developments in the world today. In summary form it offers several basic perspectives on the Hungarian revolution and the Russian Communist empire. with a sound evaluation of Hungary as a lost opportunity. No matter how hard we may try to soothe our disturbed consciences by our displayed charities and humanitarianism toward the Hungarian refugees and by ineffective United Nations resolutions. the fact is that we lost part of our honor in not rallying to the support of the Hungarian patriots when the real test of fighting for freedom presented itself. Dr. Dobriansky shows that this could have been done prior to November 4. had we been prepared for such a &lorious opportunity.
