Session #84 · 1955–57

Speech #840231412

The American faster parents are desirous of bringing some of those orphan children into this country. This they could do under the Langer bill. In fact. among the communications which have just been ordered to be printed in the RECORD is a communication from a man who is at present in Korea. seeking to bring back a baby which he and his wife have selected. but because of the quota restriction they are not allowed to do so. I do not intend to take the time to argue the morality or the social conscience of this proposal. I simply say it is so obviously humanitarian. it is so obviously right from the standpoint of human values. that Congress certainly should not adjourn. in my judgment. without the passage of the Langer bill or the adoption of the amendments which I understand the Senator from Arkansas plans to offer tomorrow to the socalled sheepherders bill. which I think is Calendar No. 2249.
