Exactly 17 years ago today on June 12. 1939. in the southern district of New York. and I would like to say I am very proud to be an American citizen. I was proud of it the day I was naturalized. I became a citizen after I acquainted myself with the United States and after I had been a teacher here at several universities and having become well acquainted with what It means to be an American citizen. "I became an American citizen because I wanted to. I was not born an American citizen. I was always proud to be an American citizen. to fight for the values and the ideals which the United States and the American people have always been guided by.
