It is well for us to remember that bonds of friendship are necessary if we are ever to have understandings between people and that we will never have a just and lasting peace until we do attain a warm understanding between all the people of the world. I think it will be of interest for Members of the House to know which of the American voluntary agencies are carrying out these successful programs in the Far East. Those agencies are the Catholic Relief Services of the National Catholic Welfare Conference. the Lutheran World Federation. Church World Services of the National Council of the Churches of Christ. and the Aid Refugee Chinese Intellectuals. Inc. A significant amendment to Public Law 480 is that which will permit our Government to transfer directly to friendly governments our surplus agricultural commodities.
