Session #84 · 1955–57

Speech #840215518

Mr. President. with the passing of each day we come closer to the adjournment date for this session of Congress. and with the passing of each day the chance for passage of the muchneeded amendments to the Immigration and Refugee Relief Acts becomes less and less. My concern over this prompted me to call this matter to the attention of the Senate earlier this month. The need for this remedial legislation further prompted me to call this plight to the attention of the President by letter. dated July 17. I frankly asked the President for his suggestions and comments in the hope that I might have his thinking while it was still possible to obtain passage of some of the proposed legislation.
