Mr. President. House Concurrent Resolution 221 records congressional approval of the adjustment of status of certain aliens whose cases have been recommended to Congress by the Attorney General under the provisions of section 4 of the Displaced Persons Act of 1948. as amended. which provides for the adjustment of the immigration status of certain aliens who establish that they lawfully entered the United States as nonimmigrants prior to April 30. 1949. Under the procedure prescribed in the act. if during the session of Congress in which a case is reported or prior to the end of the session next following. Congress adopts a concurrent resolution stating in substance that it approves the granting of the status of permanent residence to such alien. the Attorney General is authorized to record the aliens lawful admission for permanent residence.
