Moral courage was. in truth. another name for Sam Horvitz. It will be to the eternal credit of the Lorain Journal that the man who made it the newspaper that it is today was. throughout his career. one of the finest exemplars of the American tradition. A poor boy forced to go to work at the age of 8 because of his fathers blindnessthe sob of hardworking immigrant parentshe demonstrated again in his generation that America is truly the land of opportunity that has been so proudly proclaimed since the beginning of our history. A pioneer himself in many of his endeavors. be was among those Americans whowhether in business. industry. or one of the crafts or professionshave kept alive the genius of pioneering. the process of blazing new frontiers. On the economic side. the thing that Sam Horvits proved basically was that whenever he set his hand to the plow the furrow was bound to be a productive one.
