The interest of the Senate in adopting this resolution which the Senator from North Dakota submitted on May 14. the anniversary of the death of Carl Schurz. is attributable to the fact that this German immigrant to the United States became one of this Nations greatest statesmen. Carl Schurz - served as a Member of the Senate and as a member of the Committee on Foreign Relations from 1869 to 1875. He n served in various capacities as a member of the Cabinets of Abraham Lincoln and President Hayes.
