Speech #840181903

Oil is so intimately associated with the Middle East in westera eyes it often is forgotten that for the people who live there water is far more valuable and important. They could live and prosper without oilbut not without water. A dispatch by ScrippsHoward writer R. L Shackford discusses the Jordan River development project which not only would create more than a quarter million acres of new arable land for both Arabs and Jews. but also would offer resettlement opportunities for about onethird of the 900.000 Palestinian Arab refugees. The Arab nations and Israel could contribute greatly to stabilization of the area if they would forget their feud long enough to give a final goahead.
