CARL ANDERSEN. The gentleman has well stated that this problem of surpluses should be considered as a blessing rather than a curse. I think anybody who has had the good fortune or misfortune. whichever we may wish to term it. to go to the Near East. especially in the close vicinity of the Israeli border. and has been able to check into the manner in which about 350.000 human beings are living. in camps which are really indescribable. to say nothing of the additional 550.000 refugees who are being taken care of further inland. in Lebanon. Syria. and Jordanwhen he sees all of those people with scarcely enough to keep body and soul together he will be set to thinking that we in America should consider ourselves blessed to have this superabundance of food. I think the gentleman would agree with me that conditions would be really bad in this country if the time ever comes when there is not sufficient food to feed our own people here in America.
