But I am especially gratified at the part played by Dr. Kolff. the inventor and developer of the heartlung machine. since I was instrumental in arranging for him to come to the United States from Holland. About 7 years ago I was informed that the Cleveland Clinic was interested in bringing Dr. Kolff from Holland to become associate professor of experimental medicine at the clinic. Inquiry into the Immigration Acts revealed that he could be admitted as a research professor. He arrived here in 1950. has subsequently become a citizen of the United States. and his family has followed him over. Since coming here.
