Session #84 · 1955–57

Speech #840132402

I wish to make it clear to the Senator that I do not at all question his good purposes. I wish to say. however. that on the basis of any evidence of which I know. what we are dealing with here is a Jewish refugee who fled the cruel Nazi regime. and his entrance into the United States I understand was perfectly legal. There are those within corporate bodies. among whom I do not include the distinguished Senator from South Carolina. who do not like to see anyone representing a minority group come in and who apparently do not want a Jewish refugee on their board. As the Senator from South Carolina knows. I take the position that in this country every man stands on his own feet.
