Actually. it transcended politics. It brought together national and international figures. governors. mayors. Members of Congress. judges. business executives. social and civic leaders from various parts of the country. irrespective of party affiliation. with one purpose in mindto give due recognition to the foreignborn and the descendants of all immigrants who helped to make America what it is today. Major Remo came to this country as an immigrant from Italy when he was only 8 years old. He received the usual education and later worked as a newspaperman for about 13 years on one of the leading newspapers in New York. Shortly after the attack on Pearl Harbor. he enlisted in the United States Army as a private and was assigned to the Public Relations Division of the War Department.
