Session #84 · 1955–57

Speech #840122704

Yet this abundance of opportunity must. like our freedom. be constantly and zealously guarded. If it is breached at any point. we are in peril and America will soon cease to be free America. This is still the land of opportunity for all people. In recent days I have been deeply disturbed by a determined attempt to curtail this freedom of opportunity. The specific target has been Leopold D. Silberstein. a refugee who came to our shores as a direct result of the rise of Hitler. Mr. Silberstein carries proudly the title of American citizen. and has had a most distinguished business record since he arrived on these shores.
