Mr. Speaker. .mindful of the turbulent conditions of world affairs today. we join our prayers .with thosetof .the .patient. brave. and .persevering .Lithuanian people in .commemorating -the .38th anniversary -of their Ande.pendence. an independence that was short lived and wrested from them by cruel tyrants. .2724 Like all subjugated peoples. the Lithuanians. and their leaders in exile. realize that liberation will not come overnight. and that until it does come resistance will exact a terrible price in death and mass deportations. They also realize that the time for small nations as selfcontained entities is over and that they must seek salvation in a wider allEuropean organization. But for the present the fight for liberation must invoke all the values that go with the building of a nation. and independence.
