Session #84 · 1955–57

Speech #840121879

The voice of the gentleman from West Virginia today is not a voice crying in the wilderness. I know it to be the voice of experience. What he tells you today in urging your support of H. R. 8954. this import quota bill. he tells you with full knowledge of what this socalled reciprocaltrade program has done to the people he represents in West Virginia. It applies also to what has happened to the people of the Fourth District of Georgia. Within the Fourth District of Georgia I have seen one of the large segments of our great textile industry destroyed during the last 4 years because of excessive imports from the Empire of Japan.
