But after the birth of the Nation came the growth of the Nation. It was then the young republic turned to heroes of another sort. men whose job it was to fill out the democratic framework which had been erected at such cost. Such a man was the young Swissborn Albert Gallatin. a youth of 13 in Geneva when our great Revolutionary War began. Born on January 29. 1761. and an immigrant at 19. Gallatin. as Senator. Congressman. and Secretary of the Treasury. was destined to fulfill himself nobly as an American and to earn for himself. in the company of such giants as Washington.
