But even now. the Ukrainian Resistance Army continues to fight against Soviet attempts to destroy the peoples burning desire for independent freedom. Brutal purges and deportations ordered by Moscow have liquidated countless numbers of Ukrainian leaders. but the spiritual and moral resources of the people produce immediate substitutes. Ukrainian culture. centered In the capital city of Kiev. continues to flourish. and historically has been the moving force behind the nationalistic spirit of the people. Its centuries of traditions and customs represent the indefatigable struggles of a country destined to possess the same freedom enjoyed by Americans in the United States.
