For a number of years. during the time funds were being raised for the pedestal of the Statue of Liberty. the site was known as Liberty Island. but the name did not stick. I suggest. however. that the appropriate name actually is Liberty Island and that the Congress should permanently establish that name for the site of the Statue of Liberty. The citizens of this country are organizing to establish the American Museum of Immigration at the foot of the statue as the great shrine of our national unity. The museum will vastly enhance the setting In which the statue stands. I suggest that the Congress should do its part to give the statue the most meaningful environment possible. so that the message of the majestic symbol of America may be made more brilliant to all the peoples of the world.
