Session #84 · 1955–57

Speech #840103160

It was a great privilege to work closely with him on social security. I think I am safe in saying that we saw eye to eye on all matters which were of common interest. No man was more deeply interested in or more completely convinced of the necessity for fair. humane. just. and workable immigration laws. He was a tower of strength in the fight which we have waged in the Congress for several years to obtain a more equitable and a less brutal and cruel immigration policy. He was a strong proponent of and always a fighter for fair and -progressive taxation. He felt that taxation should be spread fairly and equitably in its demand on all the people. not upon any one class or group.
