So far as is known. no journalist or chronicler on the subject of Yugoslavia has written an historical analysis condemning Artukovics conduct or actions. In all of the Service proceedings involving Artukovic. only three Government witnesses appeared. Their testimony was so useless that nowhere in the Service memorandum or the Board of Immigration Appeals opinion are they quoted. The first witness. John Knezevic. admittedly not in Croatia during the period 194144 about which he testified. gave opinion testimony of a general nature concerning Artukovic over strenuous objections of counsel. and refused to reveal the sources of his opinions. claiming some fancied imml4nity from answering questions other than those he wished to answer.
