Mr. President. it is my understanding that the hearings on the proposed bills to amend the Refugee Relief Act of 1953 have now been completed. It Is my hope that the Senate Judiciary Committee will be able to report a bill along the lines of the proposals contained in S. 1794. the amendments sponsored by myself and the Senator from Illinois the Senator from Minnesota and the Senator from Tennessee [Mr. KEFAUVERJ. During the past few weeks. I have received a large number of communications from all parts of the United States urging speedy action on these amendments. along the lines proposed in my bill. and also those contained in S. 2113. introduced by the Senator from Utah . in conformity with the recommendations by the President.
