President. on Monday. April 25. I introduced. on behalf of myself. the Senator from Illinois . the Senator from Minnesota . and the Senator from Tennessee . a bill comprehensively amending the Refugee Relief Act. The bill Is now pending before the Judiciary Committee. I was very glad indeed to learn. from yesterdays press conference at the White House. of the Presidents statement that he favors revision of the present act. I promptly issued the following statement: I am pleased that the President has at long last taken cognizance of the crippling defects in the Refugee Relief Act. I hope that the Presidents advocacy of amendments to the act will facilitate the holding of early hearings. favorable consideration. and speedy passage of suitable amendments. I. of course. will strongly press for approval of our bill.
