Session #84 · 1955–57

Speech #840012651

If it had been the law of our country in our early days. America could never have grown to its present greatness and indeed would never have been the America that it is. There is nothing in this bill which impairs the security of our country. It merely eliminates the shame of racism and national discrimination from the body of our law. It eradicates the stigma of secondclass citizenship now imposed on millions of naturalized Americans. All rightthinking citizens of our country. if they knew the facts. I am sure would join in demanding that Congress pass this measure without delay.
