And. crowning your educational endeavors. is the opening next year in Tel Aviv of a great new university. a modern college of arts and sciences. which will prepare Israeli youth for positions of leadership in the new state. I am especially pleased that you asked me through Mr. Norman and Mr. Spar to join you this afternoon because I am Irish. and proud of it. and a Roman Catholic. and proud of it. Both my mother and father were born in Ireland and came to this country as immigrants. We Irish feel a special bond with the Jewish people. We both know what it means to struggle against great odds. and under almost hopeless conditions. for a national homeland.
