Max Ascoll was born at Ferrara. Italy. on June 25. 1898. and arrived on these shores in September 1931 as a political refugee. having been several times jailed for his socialistic activities in his native Italy. No immigrant was he who had come here to work for security and success in our democracy and in turn to make his contribution in further building and strengthening our way of life. In those dark days of our great economic depression when American youths were grimly meeting and solving their economic difficulties in the American way. Max Ascoli arrived here. aged 33. on the magic carpet of a Rockefeller Foundation scholarship.
