Session #83 · 1953–55

Speech #830265835

Mr. Speaker. the National Catholic Weekly Review America of August 14. 1954. contains the following interesting comment with regard to a subject in which I have been interested for some time. As a memberand chairman for 4 yearsof the appropriations subcommittee which supplies funds for the activities of the Immigration and Naturalization Service of the Department of Justice. I have visited the Mexican border along southeastern Texas and can easily visualize what has been happening there as described in this article. I feel that we should commend the new Commissioner of Immigration and Naturalization. Gen. Joseph M. Swing. on his drive to clean up this blight on our American reputation.
