Speech #830239872

On December 3. 1953. Egyptian guns. mounted at the entrance of the Gulf of Aqaba. fired on the American ship Albion. which was en route to the Jordanian port of Aqaba. This ship was carrying wheat for Arab refugees in Jordan. We were doing something to help the Arabs but the Egyptians saw fit to fire on an American freighter because they were under the belief that the ship was bound for the Israel port of Elath. a few miles away. If our Government made a formal and public protest to the Government of Egypt over this outrage against our rights.
