Session #83 · 1953–55

Speech #830177089

Now. what will we do about the feeling in Asia that we represent. in some sense. colonialism. European colonialism. and also what you might call the "sahib" psychology? Senator MANsFIELD. I am afraid that we have been guilty along that line. though to a lesser degree than the Dutch. the French. and the British. I feel that one of the reasons why we should not go into Indochina with combat effectives is that we will be creating in the minds of not only the Indochinese. but of the other Asiatic people as well. that we are just going to pull the French chestnuts out of the fire. Mr. KRocK.
