The courage of the tortured millions does not in any way diminish their suffering. and we can no longer tolerate a state of affairs in which men pay with their lives for their devotion to freedom. It has become imperative that we move immediately toward the alleviation of the terrible lot that has befallen the victims of tyranny. We must change our present immigration laws so as to enable displaced persons to come to the United States and live in enjoyment of that freedom for which they sacrificed so much. We must also press for the ratification of the genocide convention. Only after we have made our position on this issue completely clear to the whole world can we hope to exert effective pressure on the Communists and force them to cease their brutal crimes against the people of Armenia and other Iron Curtain countries.
